Important Information Regarding Item (Bullet) found on Bus (2/15/2024)

February 15, 2024

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,

I’m writing to update you on the investigation of a bullet found this morning on a school bus.

The results of the search and investigation conducted by district staff in collaboration with local law enforcement have not yielded any additional bullets or evidence of any safety concerns.

We searched the bus, students' backpacks and lockers, and reviewed video surveillance. As a result, the investigation concluded that there are no concerns to student and staff safety.

We appreciate the quick response from district staff, law enforcement and the student who alerted the bus driver of the bullet. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this manner.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joseph M. DeBarbieri

Superintendent of Schools

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,

I’m writing to you to inform you that we are investigating an incident this morning on a school bus. An elementary student found a bullet on the bus and gave it to the bus driver. The bus was transporting students to Reynolds Elementary School and had transported students to Ray Middle School earlier this morning.

Our school resource officers are investigating the situation and searches are taking place at both schools because it is unclear when the bullet was brought on the bus. Due to the appearance of the bullet, we believe it may have been found on the ground and brought on the bus. We are in the early stages of the investigation.

We are following our safety and security protocols. At this point in time, we believe there is no danger to our students and staff.

I would like to thank the student who brought this matter to the attention of the bus driver. Our district takes matters of this nature extremely seriously. We will follow up at the conclusion of our investigation.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joseph M. DeBarbieri
Superintendent of Schools
