Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,
It’s been a busy and exciting week for our Bees! The Boys Varsity Soccer team won the Section III Class AAA championship on Monday and Swimmer Olivia McManus won the Section III Class A Championship in the 100 butterfly on Wednesday. Olivia set a new school record, qualified for states and was the 5th overall swimmer. Great job, Bees!
There is no school and district offices are closed on Monday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the veterans in our district for their bravery, dedication and service to our country! Our Marching Bees will be helping to honor our local veterans on Saturday as they perform in the 2024 CNY Veterans Parade, which starts at noon at the NYS Fairgrounds.
I have a several announcements to share with you today:
We are releasing the third video in our series for our Capital Improvement Project, which will go before voters on December 10, 2024. We solicited the help of our award-winning Baker News students to produce a series of videos to help inform the public about the project. The third video in the series is available now. Watch it here. The Capital Improvement Project looks to do a full renovation at either Van Buren Elementary or Elden Elementary. Why Elden OR Van Buren? Both schools are almost 70 years old and are in need of full renovation. Given that one of the project’s goals is to maximize state aid, and factoring in the length of time it takes to complete capital improvement projects, only one of the two schools will undergo full renovation as part of this proposed project. The second school will undergo renovations with this project, but the full renovations for the second school will be completed as part of a future proposed project. You're invited to take a building tour of the schools to take a look at their current conditions. The tour of Elden will take place on Thursday, November 14th at 5:30 p.m. The tour of Van Buren will take place on Tuesday, November 19th at 5:30 p.m. No registration required. Visit our capital project webpage to learn more about the project.

Baker High School. The public is invited to attend the community showcase of the student's work on Thursday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the C.W. Baker High School Auditorium.
Congratulations to senior Alex Jerrett who won the Bousquet Holstein Photo Contest Grand Prize this year with his "Eyes on the Milky Way" photo. The theme this year was "Humanity & the Natural World.” There were more than 200 photos submitted from high school students in Onondaga and Tompkins counties. Twenty-two photos were chosen as finalists. Alex Jerrett had three photos selected as finalists. Senior Alex Sherpa’s “Sky on Fire” photo was also honored as a finalist.
