Announcements for Friday, October 18, 2024

Posted Date: 10/18/24 (1:06 PM)

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,

I’m pleased to announce details of our multi-year capital improvement project, which will go in front of voters on December 10th, 2024. This three-phase, transformative project creates amazing opportunities for our students and future students. Our district has been studying and exploring the components of this project for the past decade, and I’m excited to share the details with our families and staff. The project’s webpage launched today. Check it out. We will be releasing more information over the next several weeks and hosting events where you can learn more. Our video series produced by Baker News students will launch next week.

I have a few announcements to share with you today:

  • This morning we were featured on Friday Morning Lights on NewsChannel 9 and it was fantastic to see our Bees in the spotlight. Our Marching Band, cheerleaders, Baker News crew, undefeated Girl Varsity Volleyball team and football team did an amazing job. You can check out photos on our Facebook page.

  • We have four student athletes competing this afternoon in Section III girls tennis individual tournament this afternoon at Oneida High School. Teammates Mira Nazdan and Ayla Kalfass will compete in the Class A singles final. Lainey Nesbitt and Sonia Nazdan team up to compete in the Class A doubles final. Sectional seeding for boys and girls soccer and field hockey will take place on Sunday with action starting next week. Go Bees!

  • Congratulations to the C.W. Baker High School students who were inducted into the National Honor Society Thursday evening. The National Honor Society is a nationwide organization that recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character both inside the classroom and out. Check out the list of inductees on our website.

  • Members of the girls modified swim team recently broke a longstanding school record for in the 200 Medley Relay and they broke the record again on Wednesday. Congrats to Ryleigh Glowacki, Brianna Cooper, Ryleigh Parfit and Alexa Delia. The girls modified swim team was undefeated this season with an 8-0 record. Great work! The future looks bright for our girls swimming program!

  • Congratulations to our girls modified cross country team who won the SCAC Metro Championship race Thursday at Oswego Middle School!

  • Congratulations to Marching Bees who were finalists in the Bands of America regional competition at the Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina last weekend. On Saturday the Bees are competing in Central Square. Go Bees!

  • Parents, guardians and community members are invited to attend the “Tech-Savvy Parents: Navigating the Digital Age Together” -- Community Parent Night on Wednesday, October 23rd at Durgee Junior High School. The event, which will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., will feature a film screening and panel Q&A discussion about understanding the world children are navigating as they grow up in the digital age. Parents of students in 3rd to 12th grade are encouraged to attend. The screening will feature “Childhood 2.0 The Living Experiment,” which is a documentary that addresses real-life issues facing kids today, including cyberbullying, online predators, suicidal ideation and more. The panel Q&A discussion will include Katey McPherson, a childhood advocate and education consultant.

  • You’re invited to join us for our Community Café on Tuesday, October 29th at C.W. Baker High School in the cafeteria. The topic discussed will be Cell Phone Use & Social Media in Schools. The Community Café, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., is an opportunity to bring together students, staff, parents and community members to discuss important topics impacting the school district. Guests will gather in small groups as we share ideas, perspectives and light refreshments. Registration is required. We hope you can join us!
