Parent Notification

(Per 8 NYCRR §100.2(ii)(1)(vi) – Regulations of the Commissioner of Education)

  • When a student requires additional support beyond what is provided to all students in the general education setting:
    • Parents/guardians will be notified in writing. (See additional resources for sample letter)
    • Parents/Guardians will be notified in writing when their student is ready to exit. (See additional resources for sample letter)
  • The written notification will include:
    • A statement that the student is in need of intervention.
    • Information about the parents’/guardians’ right to request an evaluation for:
      • Special Education Programs
      • Special Education Services

Professional Learning

(Per 8 NYCRR §100.2(ii)(3) – Regulations of the Commissioner of Education)

  • Effective implementation of data-based decision-making processes, such as Response to Intervention (RtI), requires:
    • Specific skills and knowledge tailored to the roles and responsibilities of:
      • Teachers
      • School personnel involved in the RtI process
         
  • To support this:
    • High-quality professional learning will be provided to:
      • All instructional staff
      • All supervisory staff
