Baldwinsville Central School District hosted the Traffic Safety Advisory Board's annual Schools Open Traffic Safety Press Conference on Friday morning. Law enforcement officers from all over Central New York gathered to remind drivers to slow down, watch for children walking to school and obey all traffic laws, especially around school buses.
"School safety doesn’t begin at the front doors of our school buildings, it starts the moment our students leave their homes," said Superintendent Dr. Joseph DeBarbieri. "Whether they are walking to school or riding the school bus, their safety is a shared responsibility. That’s why we’re calling on the entire community to be vigilant, especially when it comes to traffic safety during school hours. Together, we can create a safer environment for all of our students, staff and community members.
Baldwinsville Police Michael Lefancheck said there are more than 70,000 students traveling to and from school every day in Onondaga County and nothing is more important than their safety.
"It's imperative that all of us in the community take special notice of school buses and those bicycling and walking to school every day," he said. "All of us in law enforcement are asking for the community's support in keeping our school children safe."
Slow down.
Look around.
Keep Baldwinsville safe!
